Mysterious Ways......?

A real-life vicar will control the actions of a cartoon double, including welcoming the flock, announcing hymns and preaching.

Oh my.

TrendSetters....(I Hope)

Sweden's social services should pay for personal computers and internet subscriptions for those who cannot afford it....

I'd like to see how this pans out!

"It Took Real Talent to Fail"

The US had enormous resources to reconstruct the ruins. Resistance had virtually no outside support, and in fact developed within largely in response to violence and brutality of the invaders. It took real talent to fail.

Blogging Under Attack......?

Weblogs have revolutionised the media. But are they more than just vanity publishing?

BikeShare!

Bikeshare is convenient and economical for anyone who makes frequent trips around town. A one-year membership is $25 a year (or four hours of volunteer service), less than the cost of a tank of gas or 12 trips on transit.

Read up on the latest from our friends up north. Why can't we get something like that started here in Tucson......? or at least one of the bigger cities here in the states. I'm sure a lot o' people would go for it, they just haven't been given the opportunity to.

Growing Discontent, So What!

I just read a little report about folx' growing discontent about the Iraqi situation (taken from TheyBlinked). I say So What?

America is still there. American leadership says we're still going to stay there. American leadership over there (after the Fallujah killings of the four "security consultants") said that we are going to fight back even harder.......so, we have all of this discontent about what's going on, but it seems that no one that makes decisions is listening, or has to listen. Why is this?

I have no answers.........

Saudi Presenter Shows Beaten Face

I want to use what happened to me to draw attention to the plight of women in Saudi Arabia

- Courtesy of the BBC

It's about damn time! Damn, that took some guts. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out. I heard the report this morning on the BBC radio, and the reporter said that people were going so far as to wanting the death penalty for the guy that beat this lady up!

Some Gmail Pittfalls.......?

Friday, April 09, 2004

E-mail I just sent to a friend.....wanted to explore the thought a little further....

...Also, what is it about organized religion that is so attractive (semi-rhetorical…)? I guess, if we go by the Webster’s definition of religion (def. 2 w/the link to “religious”) we’re all part of some sort of organized religion of some sorts. I guess it’s when people aren’t open to dialogue…….? And aren’t open to change…..?

I can't quite put a finger on it. I mean, an organized group of people with like-mindedness isn't a bad thing, it's the "organization" that's can make or break the group. It's got to be when there's a leader established. When people begin to look to the most out spoken, "with-it" person and begin to rely on that person for "meet times", what we're going to talk about, what we can and can't say, etc. That person may not want to lead even, but eventually, they'll think, "Hey, I guess I am a natural leader, so I shall take the reigns or else nothing will ever happen...." and the other begin to get into thought patterns as, "When are we getting together again, come on Ms. or Mr. Leader, organize something........." And then it becomes, "well, we can't meet w/o checking w/ such and such" - or "we can't meet w/o such and such being there...."

The current church structure is a control freaks dream come true! Hell, I'm not even sure what the Bible says about respecting leaders - wait, I think it says somewhere to "respect your elders"......isn't funny that the "governing body" in the church is referred to as The Elders....What if that passage meant, "respect the elderly" Anyway, pastors love the control and the power. They can say whatever the fuck they want to say, and we're supposed to take that and accept it...? I say BULLSHIT! They get paid to study the Bible and then pontificate? "Well Hell, they have to survive". That's funny. I tell you, if every christian started studying the bible for themselves AND thinking critically about it, pastor's would lose their jobs! Anyway, enough for now.

I'm at work today. It's a company holiday, but we need people to man the phones, so here i am.

I had a wonderful time talking to my friends Rene and Joel the other night. They fucking rock. They're going to do some work overseas here in the next couple of months. The reason I bring them up, is because I love my friends. All of the people that have stuck w/me over the years (damn, sounds like a graduation speech). it's cliche, but i mean it.

Guess I'm trying to sound positive. I've got to get my rants out, though. So, I'm done for now. As always, I'm open for comments on anything I say.

We're a record label. But we're not evil.

Check this label out (found it courtesy of SXSW)! They do a "try it before you buy it" gig. Artists make 50% and keep the rights to their shit.

I hear that 50% is unheard of in the industry. Anyway, it seems that there are a lot of bands jumping on this. Thank you for working with us, Magnatune!

"We tried to put secret messages to our terrorist cells around the city, but no one seems to be answering their decoder rings. So this month we used Oil, sand and blood. Seems to work for the rest of the world."

NPR's April Fools.....

Thursday, April 01, 2004

I'm still feeling blue. I think it's because we're broke. The reason we're broke is because we spend outside our means. If we didn't spend outside of our means, we wouldn't be broke. Technically, we can afford our house, my truck, our groceries, replacement clothes, etc. Pretty much the "necessities". I'm tired of stress. I'm tired of contributing to stress. I've already written before about how I'm frustrated where we're at as a family, how I'm frustrated where I'm at as a person. I keep thinking, "When I get my degree.......When E gets her degree......" WHEN WHEN WHEN WHEN! I want to stop with the when and do it all now!

End.

P.S. I do understand that my necessities are luxuries in other parts of the U.S., the world, etc. Unfortunately, those that I listed above are necessities to us because we chose to make them that way. Sometimes I wonder why we have done this to ourselves, but that's life.
